Andre 3000 Tells GQ.com The Status Of Outkast Album

Out of nowhere, Andre 3000 is back on our televisions, on our radios, and—by the end of this year—in our closets. But, as one of the music industry’s most reliably innovative artists, it should come as no surprise. In an online exclusive, the man they call 3 Stacks tells GQ.com what he has in the works for the next year, clears up an infamous hip-hop misquote, and answers what everyone has been dying to know: will there be another OutKast album?

Andre 3000 on a possible solo album…
“…I think I’m planning to do a solo project. I don’t know when it will come out, but hopefully it’ll come out this year… I’m 36 now, so I have grown-man dreams. This album will just be me being myself as normal.”

On the sample from OutKast’s “Spottieottiedopaliscious” used in J. Cole’s song “Who Dat?”…
“…it’s funny because J. Cole sampled it [playing off of the word “Cole”]. When they asked for clearance, I told him and his team that I wasn’t saying ‘Cole,’ that I was saying ‘Court,’ [referring to a notoriously tough Atlanta project building] but they wanted to use it anyway. [laughs] So I was like, ‘Okay.’”

On the status of a new OutKast album…
There’s been a lot of talk on the Internet about an OutKast album and I have to say that as of now, there are no plans for another OutKast album. There’s a lot of music on the horizon. I’ve been living off the excitement of new artists.”
