Now before diving head first into this latest Bravo lay-off, let’s be clear – a lot of the missing housewives didn’t just “leave” their respective shows. With the exception of Dena Manzo (New Jersey) and Bethanny Frankel (New York), certain housewives were given their walking papers – Danielle Staub (New Jersey) and Lynn Curtain (Orange County) were each fired at the end of their respective seasons. And who can forget (aka we all forgot) the entire cast of the “Real Housewives of D.C.” getting fired last year when the show was canceled, making its first season, its last.
Now the latest Bravo casualties? Jill Zarin, Alex McCord, Cindy Barshop, and Kelly Bensimon. Yep! Not 1, not 2, not 3, but FOUR housewives were all axed for the next season. Question remains, for some, WHY such an extreme move by the network. Although Bravo implied that the run with the ladies was simply over (Zarin & McCord are both from the original cast, with Bensimon having done seasons 2-4, and Barshop only being part of season 4), the freshman of the group states, “it was clear that the women genuinely didn’t like each other anymore” (ABC News).
The reason, at this juncture, is irrelevant. It seems as though NY is losing its touch, and in my humble opinion, can join D.C. on the chopping block, lest Bravo really believe we’re just going to watch Ramona Singer, LuAnn DeLesseps and Sonja Morgan. I bet you Bethanny is glad she got out when she did and dodged that bullet.
